How to Tell if Your Double-Pane Windows Need to be Replaced

Published on

New double-pane windows offer a number of incentives for homeowners in Sunset Hills, one being improved energy efficiency. Whether you’re looking online or with an expert at a showroom, energy efficiency is a critical factor in the purchasing process for replacement windows. Double-pane windows are a great product if you’re wanting increased efficiency.

A lot of new double-pane windows are full of argon, a colorless, nontoxic gas that has a greater density than air, which leaves you with additional insulation from heat and cold.. However, if you see that your windows have become “foggy” or if they have developed condensation, it’s likely that you have developed a larger leak and the gas has been replaced with moisture. There are a couple things that you can do to determine if this is the case:

  1. Clean the exterior and interior portion of your glass to ensure that the condensation or fog you’re finding is in between the glass, not on the glass.
  2. If you determine the moisture is in fact between the glass, you can contact the manufacturer to find out if you can make a warranty claim.
Depending on the age of your windows and the conditions impacting the leak, it may make sense to start searching for replacement windows. Insulation is one of the most important qualities of your windows, and if that is altered it can impact your heating and cooling bills.
